As a South Dakota wedding and lifestyle photographer, I’m always looking for opportunities to capture the real, unscripted moments that tell a family’s unique story. Recently, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful family of four at Oakwood Lakes State Park, specifically at the scenic Princess Lookout—a favorite spot for natural, light-filled sessions.
This session was extra special, as it celebrated their youngest turning six months old! The family wanted to mark this milestone with a mix of casual, movement-focused photos that felt true to who they are—not overly posed, but full of warmth and connection.
The end of summer light filtered perfectly through the trees at Princess Lookout, creating the soft, golden glow that makes this location a hidden gem for South Dakota family photography. With two little ones (ages 3 years and 6 months), we kept the energy playful and relaxed—letting the kids explore, giggle, and just be themselves.
We made sure to capture some special solo portraits of their baby girl as she reached that six-month milestone. She was full of smiles and curiosity, and I loved documenting those early expressions and sweet baby details. These fleeting moments go by so fast, and it was important to give the family something to remember this stage forever. The last time I had photographed this family was a fresh 48 session after her birth and it’s so much fun watching them grow.
What I love most about this session is how real it felt. Whether it was the big brother running through the grass or mom and dad cuddling their daughters close, every frame tells a story of love, connection, and life in motion.
If you’re looking for a family or wedding photographer in South Dakota who focuses on natural light, genuine emotions, and meaningful moments, I’d love to connect. Whether it’s a family/milestone session like this or your wedding day, I believe in documenting the moments that matter most.
