From “Just a Couples Session” to “Will You Marry Me?” | A Surprise Proposal Story
Some photo sessions are beautiful because of the light.
Some because of the location.
And then there are sessions like this one—the kind that turns into one of the biggest moments of someone’s life.
The Secret Plan
A few weeks before the session, I received a message from him.
He told me he wanted to plan a session for their anniversary and wanted to also ask her to marry him.
Together, we planned every detail beforehand. From where they would stand to the perfect spot in the field where he’d get down on one knee. My job wasn’t just to photograph the moment; it was to help keep the surprise a secret while making everything feel effortless.
The Moment She Had No Idea Was Coming
Golden hour couldn’t have been more perfect.
As we wandered through the field, laughing and taking what she thought were just a few more portraits, I gave them one final prompt.
That’s when he reached into his pocket.
He dropped to one knee.
And everything changed.
The look on her face was pure disbelief, followed by tears, laughter, and the biggest smile. Those are the moments you simply can’t recreate—the raw emotions, the happy tears, and the overwhelming excitement of saying “yes.”

After the proposal, we continue with an engagement session while you’re both still soaking in the excitement. Some of my favorite engagement photos happen in those first few minutes after the ring goes on.
